Watching Baseball

One of the ways that I watch obscure TV is during the commercials for my beloved Cleveland Indians. As many of you know it is not easy to stick with a losing baseball team. So I have to mention that I have been in a much better mood watching obscure television now that the tribe has won 8 games in a row. Also, it should be said, since this is a blog about television, the indians have one of the best television broadcast teams in baseball Rick Manning and Matt Underwood. They need the love after they were ranked in the bottom five of all baseball broadcast teams.

EAGLEHEART - Adult Swim

Cartoon network isn't just for cartoons. It is for goofy shows of all kinds. One of my favorite comedies, Delocated, is on Cartoon network. So turn your dials to 296 if you have Direct TV. This is the type of comedy that actually makes you laugh unlike network sitcoms like Mr. Sunshine. This spoof of Walker Texas Ranger begins each episode with fight between the Marshall and a bad guy. The bad guy dies, I know this sounds stupid and it is, but you just have to watch it and give it a chance.  It is impossible to explain the type of humor Chris Elliot uses without showing a clip. So a clip is below....

Needless to say, there is no show that packs more violence into fifteen minutes. But trust me, you will laugh! "wait a second, it's not christmas"

A Classic Twin Peaks Moment - Creamed Corn

I was watching an episode of Twin Peaks. Came across this classic moment in TV history. "Do you see creamed corn on my plate?"

Brilliant but Canceled Shows - Terriers

Terriers - Brilliant but Canceled

With the final episode of "Lights Out' approaching, I thought I would mention the best show that FX has canceled so far. Yes it was even better than Damages and the previously mentioned Lights Out. Both of those shows were/are great but Terriers was the trifecta great writing, great acting, and a premise that could sustain the show for years. I have to admit that I am biased because I am huge fan of detective shows. One of my favorite shows to watch in reruns is Columbo. Why did Terriers fail? Lots of bloggers/reviewers have already said it, but I will say it again, marketing. I have to admit that I had no clue what the show would be about when I saw the initials adds which showed a dog running around on the beach. In fact I showed the above picture on purpose, it has absolutely nothing to do with the show. It is not even the dog that they had on the show (a bulldog). I honestly thought I was going to be watching a show about dogs when I saw the first episode. I was only giving the show a chance because of FXs track record. The first episode was great. A P.I. show with Donal Logue (Hank Dolworth) an ex-cop. The story line also included his ex wife, a partner (former criminal), the partners girlfriend, and the cop that was Hank's former partner. The story line included the crooked politics of Ocean Beach, why the great cop lost his job, as well as a developer who stands to ruin Ocean Beach. There were also some stand alone episodes about other jobs the P.I.s received. This show was better than any of the current cop shows they have on the networks and it is a shame it didn't get at least one more season to prove itself. I saw that it is available on ITunes and hopefully there will be a DVD release so that everyone will get a chance to view this brilliant show.

What do you think? Were there any better shows that were canceled this year? Let me know through comments I will check them out. Below is a picture that gives you a better idea of what this show is actually about.

From the Genius Chris Lilley - Angry Boys

One of my all time favorite obscure TV shows was Summer Heights High. As a teacher it was scary how close that show came to the realities of teaching. It is one of those shows you can watch over and over and still laugh. If you missed Summer Heights. It was released on DVD and is definitely worth adding to your netflix queue. It looks like Angry Boys will be another obscure tv classic comedy!

T.V. Obscurities - First Posting

In this blog I am going to attempt to write about the fascinating and obscure television on the upper reaches of the dial. Or those programs that are on the major networks, are great, but no one watches (yes I am the one person watching). I got the idea to write about this blog when I was talking to my colleagues about television. They were all talking about The Good Wife and Grey's Anatomy. When I started talking about Terriers or Peep Show they looked at me with funny look, and simply said "I have never heard of that show". Then it would take me half of my lunch break to explain the basic premise to them. So, whether it is a new drama, quirky comedy, or a show that I have discovered on netflix instant I will talk about it here. Most likely no one will read this, and that's cool, but when I've seen that amazing rerun of Twin Peaks I can at least blog about it so I don't have to encounter those funny looks when I mention Agent Cooper at work. As the mysterious giant said "The things I tell you will be true"
